ConclusionsConserved 'universal' primers and markers are
possible for chloroplast DNA. Polymorphisms can be identified with tested
primer sequences in the database. 'Generic' PCR conditons make possible the use
of many primers in new combinations. Several opportunities exist for efficient
detection and analysis of polymorphisms. I hope that this database will prove
useful for many diverse problems. Additions are welcome by e-mail to me (Berthold.Heinze@bfw.gv.at).
I also hope that our knowledge of mutation and evolution processes in
chloroplasts will receive a boost and will make it possible in the future to
make some predictions for species that still await detailed
investigations.
