The library of the Federal Forest Research Centre is among the biggest forest libraries. It goes back to 1874, the year when the Federal Forest Research Centre was established. The available publications are in the first place meant to serve the staff of the Centre and to provide them with material for their research work and scientific projects. However, the library is open also for everybody who is not a staff member of the FBVA, provided that smooth operation of the library is not restricted thereby. International loans are not possible. The library offers books, journals, publication series, and a collection of special editions. It includes now 15,600 books, 28,500 volumes of journals, and approximately 9,000 special editions. Thanks to the exchange of scientific publications with about 300 forest research centres and other, Austrian and international, institutions active in this area the major part of the forest expert literature is available in the FBVA library. Since 1998 the library has been managed using the library management system LIBERO.

Literature Documentation |
Officer-in-charge: Dipl.-Ing. Dr. Daryoush Voshmgir Since 1950, the Federal Forest Research Centre has provided literature information services. At present, 67,000, mainly German, quotations from specialized literature are stored in the EDP-assisted system documentation and information system of the FBVA. The files can be read from storage using multidimensional search criteria. A brief overview of the functions is given in the operating instructions. Literature databases from outside Austria are also accessible through remote data transmission. Further information systems like "TREECD", which has had approx. 400,000 notations since 1939, and "Woods of the World" with a list of the forest and wood-technological codes of 800 tree species, based on CD technology and "Current Contents"on disquettes, are also available to the staff of the FBVA.
