Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid
Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid - Sulphur impacts in 2007
In the 25 year long sample period of the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid, the result for sulphur in 2007 is the third best result after 1984 and 2004 - 3,0% of the points of the 16x16km grid (8 out of 269 points) showed exceedances of the threshold value.  >>>
Flash animation of the positive trend in the sulphur content in the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid from 1983 to 2006
To gain a nationwide overview of the sulphur content in the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid, the results of the investigations from 1983 to 2006 were arranged in a Flash animation.

Comparison of spatial interpolation methods on the basis of sulphur data from the Styrian Bio-Indicator Grid
Often spatial phenomena like e.g. the sulphur impact cannot be measured seamlessly all around an area, i.e. measurements have to be taken at selected plots. However, for the most part the purpose of the investigation is to draw conclusions about the entire area, not just about the locations of the measuring systems. Hence one faces the problem of needing to predict the measured variables for two- or three-dimensional areas from information gathered in spot measurements.  >>>
Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid - Sulphur impacts in 2006
The result of the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid for sulphur in 2006 follows the trend of the last years - 6.6% of the points of the 16x16km grid (18 out of 274 points) showed exceedances of the threshold value. The same picture was derived from the results of Grid 85 (harvested since 1985), where at 7.1% of the plots (53 out of 747 plots) an exceedance of the threshold value was detected.  >>>
Waldwissen.net - Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid Sulphur 2005
In Austria, the sulphur impact on forest trees is detected with the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid. Samples are taken every year, and on the basis of their analysis, the spatio-temporal development of the sulphur impact can be judged according to the statutory threshold values. Despite the reduction of SO2-emissions in Austria and its neighbouring countries, in the year 2005 the threshold values were exceeded at 41 out of 769 measuring plots.  >>>
Indication of S and N Inputs by Means of Needle Analyses Based on the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid
The evaluation of the investigation results is based on the data from the Austrian Bio-Indicator Grid, an all-Austrian monitoring programme which, since 1983, has included annual collection of needle samples from 611 sample plots (spruce and pine) and determination of the S, N, P, K, Ca and Mg concentrations.  >>>
Monitoring the impact of sulphur with the Austrian Bioindicator Grid
Despite the reduction of SO2 emissions in Austria, the legal standard is still exceeded on 8% of the plots. These plots are mainly located near large Austrian emittors, but also in areas affected by transboundary sulphur emissions from neighbouring countries.  >>>
Threshold values for the assessment of sulphur
The threshold values for the assessment of sulphur contents in leaf and needle samples are specified in the Austrian forest law “Zweite Verordnung gegen Forstschädliche Luftverunreinigungen, BGBl. Nr. 199/1984”
