Promoting Conifer Genomics

WP 4
Computational Genomics

Leader
Dr. Yves Van de Peer (VIB)

Objectives:
Annotation gives a meaning to the genome sequence, it decipheres all the information stored in it. By definition annotation means extraction, characterization, and interpretation of features of the genome sequence derived by integrating computational tools and biological knowledge. Genome annotation will provide both a structural and functional annotation. Structural annotation will identify and map protein-coding genes, transposable elements and non-coding genes on the assembled genome. Gene families will be built for further downstream bioinformatics analyses. Transcriptome data generated in WP 2 will be used to infer transcriptional regulatory networks through the use of software tools that link potential regulators and targets. State-of-the-art computational infrastructure and software architecture will ensure fast and accurate processing of data. Data will be provided to other partners of the consortium through a user-friendly and highly integrated environment.

Main focus
  • Genome annotation
  • Genome wide systems biology analyses and data management
