Gemmamyces-Bud disease of Blue spruce - Gemmamyces piceae | deutsch

Symptoms    Death of buds during or immediately after budburst, black coal-like coatings on the buds, consisting of numerous ball shaped fruiting bodies (hand-lens)
Impact    Mainly on humid sites on Blue spruces as well as on Norway spruces very common, leading to growth anomalies following repeated attacks; in Christmas tree production economic loss.
Control    Removal of infected buds, thinning of the stand (aeriation!), mawing of the understorey (grass); use of fungicides (copper compounds) during budburst (see Official Register of Plant Protection)

Affected plant parts    Needle; Shoot/Twig/Branch;
