Larch Tortix - Zeiraphera griseana | deutsch

Symptoms    In spring, feeding damage to needles at first on short shoots, later luxurious feeding on all needles and production of loose webs; remainings of the needles dry out, the shoots thus looking brown. In alpine regions above 1200m a.s.l.. Very sharp delimitation of attacked and non attacked trees (damage line); a second biotype of the larch tortrix attacks spruces and pines, but feeding only from bursting buds and shoots in May, therefore the trees do not appear brown.
Impact    More or less regular attacks of alpine larch stands with intervals of 8-9 years, lasting for about 3 years; loss in increment, shortening of needles following heavy infestation, increased danger of secondary agents; lack of food can cause attacks on spruce, where it can be dangerous for young trees.
Control    Generally none; for protection of young stands biotechnical compounds (see Official Register of Plant Protection)
