Symptoms
| |
Sudden death of crown tops, feeding damage on stems of spruces, larches and some broadleaved trees
|
Impact
| |
Dormice can damage afforestations by gawing buds. In dense stands they can cause massive damage by feeding from the bark around the stem (girdling), mostly above the forks.
|
Control
| |
Though most of the species are not endangered, they are protected in most of Austrian's counties. Measures therefore are restricted to methods expelling the animals or promoting natural enemies (for instance owls).
