Symptoms

Bright orange, slightly bulged pustules on leaves (mostly lower surface), contorted petioles of leaves and flowers, young shoots and flower buds, 1 to several mm in size. In the pustules densily aggregated aecia producing aecidiospores.

Impact
| |
Very common on various species of buckthorn (Rhamnus or Frangula alnus) in spring (May, June), however causing only slight damage there. Host alteration with numerous grasses (Poaceae), among them also cereals (there important as pathogen), where Uredo- and Teleuto-forms develop.

Generally none necessary, at the most hygienic measures (removal of the diseased plant parts), chemical compounds (see Federal Register of Plant Protection)
