Dutch elm disease (Ophiostoma novo-ulmi | deutsch

Symptoms    Initially wilt of leaves (rolling) on single branches, later on death of twigs and branches. Finally the tree dies; wood in cross section with dark, dot- and ring-shaped staining in the springwood. In addition feeding damage of bark beetles on branches and the stem.
Impact    Rather new species of Dutch elm disease, which had replaced the „old“ species O.ulmi more or less totally; highly pathogenic; plugging of vessels and intoxication of the tree by wilt-toxins, very widespread in Austria.
Control    Curative measures only for single trees worth being maintained: hygienic measures – removing of infected twigs at early stages of infection, stem injections with systemic fungicides (see federal register of plant protection).
Hosts   Elm;
Affected plant parts    Leaf; Shoot/Twig/Branch; Stem;
