Symptoms
| |
Needles of Larix in late spring or in summer with broad, brown to red cross bands; or up to half of the needle is discolored. In the bands a few small, shining and black dots, sometimes grouped densily (hand lens); needles are shed; heavy epidemics result in a lack of the characteristic "golden“ autumnal color of the larches – whole stands appear brown from late summer on.

Impact
| |
Endangering only young plants; in older trees reduction in increment, but only following repeated epidemics; predispositions: long lasting precipitation in spring and summer, very often also mass development of aphids in spring, density of stands (light deficiency, damp site conditions). The disease can be mistaken for Meria-needle cast (Meria laricis) or Hypodermella – needle cast (Hypodermella laricis).
