Dieback and cast of Thuja – Pestalotiopsis funerea | deutsch

Symptoms    Damping off of seedlings: base of stems shrivels due to girdling, plant bending downwards; older plants: leaf-scales turn yellow, then brown, finally they drop; on shoots, twigs, branches and stems lentil-shaped to stripe-shaped sunken lesions develop. As a consequence, parts of the plant or the whole plant dries out.
Impact    Common weak parasite of Cupressaceae; various weakening factors as heat (seedlings!), stand density, wet stands or root damage may lead to Pestalotiopsis-infections.
Control    Curative control not effective; avoidance of weakening factors
Hosts   Thuja; Leyland cypress; False Cypress; Juniper;
Affected plant parts    Needle; Shoot/Twig/Branch; Stem;
