Feeding damage on needles by weevils - Phyllobius sp., Otiorhynchus sp. | deutsch

Symptoms    Luxurious feeding (holes, scraping) on the lower needle surface of firs or irregular feeding from the rim on spruce needles; the needles turn red and become curled; on Taxus feeding from the rim in form of small „bays“
Impact    Even intense damage doesn't endanger the plants, since, especially with Phyllobius, only the youngest needles are affected; repeated damage may lead to loss of increment; in Christmas tree production more important.
Control    Removal of the beetles, use of insecticides, as soon as the first damage by the imagos are discovered (see official register of Plant Protection)
Hosts   Douglas fir; Yew; Spruce; Hemlock; Pine; Larch; Fir;
Affected plant parts    Needle;

Phyllobius: early symptom, single spruce needles damaged
Phyllobius: red-brown, curled needles on shoots of fir caused by intense feeding
Damage to a young Douglas fir, furrow-like feeding on the lower needle surface
Otiorhynchus: typical bay-like feeding pattern from the rim of Taxus-needles
Phyllobius: luxurious scraping on fir needles
