Oak processionary moth - Thaumetopoea processionea | deutsch

Symptoms    Leaves: young leaves totally eaten, old leaves skeletonized; web-like threads; nests of caterpillars on the stem and in forks of branches; on the stem processions of hairy, greyish-yellow caterpillars with reddish-brown mirror-like spots; Warning! Hairs may cause heavy allergic reactions! Egg layers mostly flat on twigs; possibilities of errors: other insects
Impact    Total defoliation normally only weakens older trees (predisposition to secondary damaging agents!), but if repeated several years, they can cause the death of even old trees.
Control    Biological and biotechnical insecticides at the time of young caterpillars; if control is needed urgently, pyrethroids against feeding caterpillars can be used (see Official Register for Plant Protection).
