| Symptoms | Current years needles in the second half of the season violet-brown or grey-brown: discoloration limited to the outer (distal) half of the needle; proximal needle half remaining green for a long time; many needles affected, therefore often mistaken for spring frost damage; in the subsequent year needles turn pale grey; development of fruiting bodies (hysterothecia - thin, unsharply bordered grey to black lines), needle cast; the disease can be mistaken for Lecanosticta-needle cast. | |
