FLEGT
The EU Action Plan for Forest Law Enforcement, Governance and Trade (FLEGT) sets out measures that aim to combat the problem of illegal logging and the associated trade. The Action Plan proposes the development of a FLEGT licensing scheme to ensure that only legally harvested timber is imported from VPA-countries (Voluntary Partnership Agreement).

Timber products exported from FLEGT partner countries to the Community are covered by a FLEGT licence issued by the licensing authority of that country. The FLEGT licence shall demonstrate the legality of timber products covered, as set out in the corresponding FLEGT VPA.

INDONESIA STARTS FLEGT LICENCING ON 15 NOVEMBER 2016

Specified wooden consignments listed in the annex of the Commission Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/1387 have to be accompanied by a FLEGT licence when imported into the EU. Concerned consignments can only be cleared by customs if the FLEGT licence is checked and approved by BFW.

On this occasion an informative event took place on 7 November 2016 at the BFW.
