Impact / measures
Rough shavings extruded from the bark, often mixed with resin; later on enlarged canker-like, with often intense resin flow; underneath the bark irregular, mostly resin soaked feeding tunnels.
Affected tree species
Main attacks on up to 20 years aged spruces; impairment rather low, only in cases of heavy infestation death of branches and tree tops, more rarely death of the whole tree.
Control normally not necessary; only in cases of heavily infested young plants pruning or removal of the plants.
