In summer large cocoons of white threads coating branches and twigs of various Rosaceae as pears, apple trees, hawthorn or medlars; in the cocoons orange larvae, up to 25mm in length, which feed from leaves.
Possibilities of errors: other cocoons producing insects (for instance hawthorn moths)
